– “Are you from the art world, or from the business world?” I firmly replied that I’m from the business world after all. From the creative industry, but still. It was in June this year. I registered for the „BizneSztuka- budujemy pomosty” show (“BusinessArt – we build bridges”), in which twenty young people participated in four weeks of workshops with business practitioners and artists. The goal of this project was to define yourself as a personal brand, deriving benefits equally from the world of business and from the world of art.

As it turned out, in my case, merging those two fields had to happen in my mind first. Because my original “business” badge turned out to be only partially true.  A strategist by profession.  By interest – curious of the World.

Practical humanist.

I can remember functioning on the joint point of two domains from my studies. Primarily, because during Polish Philology classes, I kept asking myself: “How can I put this knowledge into practice?”. The more practical classes, the better. Writing non-literary texts? Gladly. Journalist workshops? Most certainly yes. All the occasions, which gave me the chance of putting the theory into practice, turned out to be the most exciting element of studying, useful at work, too.

To be the best more than once.

Reaching the top in a particular domain means one thing – a slow approach of one of the biggest limitations that threatens us. Limit of the category. Because there’s nothing left higher. People used to wonder, if they will have a job, and once they got one, if they could comfortably sit in their comfort zones for the rest of their lives. Today, young people know that they cannot afford the luxury of stabilization. Constant trainings, capacity building, or even industry changes are a necessity, not a caprice.

Fresh air, curiosity and new people.

Magic happens on the joint point of the domains. In that exact moment, when we add art to business, design to technology, practical knowledge to humanities, unique creations come to life. Working on the verge of domains is hard and demanding.  But it hides a promise of creating your own identity, instead of your perfect Resume.

Fear liberating from the category limits is public and common. That dose of fresh air, which we let in to our lives, when we open ourselves for new people, new challenges and new passions.  And all of that to live limitlessly. It’s worth a try.
